The Mountain Dulcimer, native to the Appalachian region of the United States, is a strummed zither with a beautiful unique sound. The specific model we chose was hand-chosen for its shimmery and inviting tone, and we sampled the heck out of it! You can treat this VI in the traditional sense, as a drone-like gorgeous-sounding acoustic instrument. Or you can take advantage of the super detailed programming love that we put into it – by playing chord changes, notes, and patterns that couldn’t be performed on a live instrument!
We recorded genuine up and down slides and hammer-on transitions for each string, ensuring seamless, lifelike performances when transitioning between connected notes.
The engine intelligently tracks the energy of each string, dynamically adjusting hammer-on transitions to reflect the natural decay of the string’s vibration. This ensures that each transition responds naturally, based on how recently and how strongly the string was last plucked.
Included are two styles of plucking—one with a pick and one fingered. On top of that, you can choose between single-note samples for precise control or fully strummed chord samples for an authentic droning resonance. Every note was sampled both individually and as part of a full chord to capture the instrument’s natural, organic sound.
